Welcome to The Traceroute Blog.
These pages are mostly a collection of “reminder” notes detailing how networks work, combined with troubleshooting tips I’ve picked up over the years. I’m also hoping other people will find some of the content useful.
I’ve tried to explain things here as clearly and simply as I can.
Whilst networking can be hugely interesting and enjoyable, it’s the one thing everyone depends on. If the network goes down, everything stops working. You’ll be expected to explain exactly what happened, when it happened, and why it won’t happen again!
One thing is for sure: the more you understand the underlying principles of networking, the easier troubleshooting a network will be — and the more fun you’ll have doing it. Hopefully some of the pages here will help in that endeavour.
Good luck!
